Millwall Remain Hopeful for Promotion After Late Draw at Leicester, Says Neil

📅 2026-04-24

Millwall manager Alex Neil affirmed that his side is "not writing anything off" after securing a late 1-1 draw against Leicester City in their push for promotion. The result moved Millwall to second place in the Championship, though Ipswich Town trail by just one point with two games in hand.

Leicester took the lead in the 78th minute through Harry Souttar, but Macaulay Langstaff equalized in stoppage time to salvage a point for Millwall. The visitors dominated much of the match, generating 1.94 expected goals (xG) from 22 shots, compared to Leicester’s 0.93 xG from 10 attempts.

Millwall have now earned 41 points from 23 away league games this season (W11 D7 L4), matching their highest-ever away points tally in a single campaign, set in 2000-01. Neil acknowledged uncertainty over whether the draw would be sufficient for automatic promotion but remained optimistic.

"It’ll be proven over the next few days whether a point is enough," Neil told Sky Sports. "I couldn’t ask any more from the players. We had chances before they scored and kept pushing even after equalizing. The lads who started and those who came on were excellent."

He added, "Games are decided by moments. Their goal was scrappy, but we showed character to respond. If Ipswich do what they need to, we’ll assess then, but we’ve had an unbelievable season and aren’t writing anything off."
