Endrick Uncertain About Future at Real Madrid After Lyon Loan
📅 2026-04-27Lyon loanee Endrick has admitted he is unsure about his role at Real Madrid once his loan spell with the Ligue 1 club concludes at the end of the season. The 19-year-old, who joined Lyon in December after losing favor under former Madrid manager Xabi Alonso, has settled well under Paulo Fonseca’s guidance.
Since his debut, Endrick has contributed seven goals and seven assists in 18 appearances across all competitions. Only Ousmane Dembélé and Mason Greenwood (both with 15 goal involvements) have outperformed him among Ligue 1 players this season. Notably, his goal tally matches his output from 40 matches with Real Madrid, raising questions about his future at the Bernabéu.
Endrick committed to a six-year contract with Madrid in 2024 following a reported €60 million transfer from Palmeiras. However, he did not dismiss the possibility of a permanent departure. When asked by Canal Plus Foot about extending his loan—especially if Lyon secures Champions League qualification—he responded, “I really don’t know. If I have to return to Real Madrid, I’ll go back there gladly. If I have to go elsewhere, I’ll go elsewhere.”
Lyon currently sit third in Ligue 1 with 57 points after a 3-2 victory over Auxerre, level with Lille and narrowly ahead of Rennes in the race for a Champions League spot. According to Opta’s supercomputer, Lyon have a 35% chance of qualifying for next season’s competition, while Lille are favored at 50.2%. The club last competed in the Champions League in 2019-20, reaching the semifinals before falling to Bayern Munich.
“I really hope we can take Lyon to Champions League qualification, where it belongs,” Endrick added. Lyon have won three of their last four league matches (D1), with their final fixtures of the season against Rennes, Toulouse, and Lens.
