Chelsea Dismiss Liam Rosenior After Three Months as Manager
📅 2026-04-22Chelsea have terminated Liam Rosenior’s contract after just 107 days in charge. The decision follows a 3-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League and comes four days before the team’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United.
The club has endured a dismal run, losing their last five league matches without scoring, dropping to seventh in the table. Chelsea have managed only one win in their last eight games across all competitions—a narrow FA Cup quarter-final victory over League One side Port Vale—while also being eliminated from the Champions League.
Rosenior joined Chelsea from Strasbourg in January on a five-and-a-half-year deal and initially impressed, winning seven of his first nine matches. However, the team’s current form marks their worst losing streak since 1912, when they last suffered five consecutive defeats without scoring. Their overall run of losses is their longest in the Premier League since November 1993.
In the last nine Premier League matches, only Tottenham (two points) have collected fewer points than Chelsea (five—one win, two draws, six losses).
A club statement read: "Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season. This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly. However, recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards, with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future."
Rosenior departs with a 47.8% win rate, having lost 10 of his 23 matches in all competitions (11 wins, two draws). Chelsea’s Champions League qualification hopes have dwindled, with Opta’s projections giving them just a 1.4% chance of a top-five finish. A sixth-place finish could still secure European football if Aston Villa win the Europa League, but Chelsea’s probability of achieving that position stands at 10.2%, behind Brighton’s 36%.
Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take interim charge until the end of the season, starting with the FA Cup tie against Leeds. The club added: "As the club works to bring stability to the head coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment."
