Barcelona's Yamal Pledges Stronger Return After Season-Ending Injury
📅 2026-04-23Lamine Yamal has promised to return even stronger for Barcelona next season after being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury. The 18-year-old sustained the injury during Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Wednesday, shortly after scoring the opening goal at Camp Nou under manager Hansi Flick.
While Yamal is expected to recover in time for Spain’s World Cup campaign this summer, he will miss Barcelona’s remaining LaLiga matches. This season, he has scored 16 league goals, trailing only David Villa’s 18 in 2010-11 as the most by a Spanish player for Barcelona in the 21st century. Additionally, Yamal leads the league in dribbles completed (133) and ranks second in chances created (72), behind only Real Betis’ Pablo Fornals (73).
In an Instagram post, Yamal expressed his frustration: "This injury is keeping me off the pitch just when I wanted to be there the most, and it hurts more than I can put into words. It hurts not to be able to fight alongside my teammates or help when the team needs me. But I believe in them, and I know they’ll give their all in every match. I’ll be there, even from the sidelines, supporting and cheering them on. This isn’t the end—it’s just a break. I’ll come back stronger, more eager than ever, and next season will be better."
Barcelona have six LaLiga matches remaining as they aim to secure the league title, currently holding a nine-point lead over rivals Real Madrid. A crucial Clásico clash on May 10 could further solidify their position. According to Opta’s supercomputer, Barcelona have a 97.7% chance of winning the title.
Spain’s World Cup campaign begins on June 15 against Cape Verde, with group-stage matches against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay to follow.
